beyound the line=20

Would George and Leannie survive in todays world better than in their world?
Now and days people who are mentally challenged  have better care. We have nurses, medicine that is more advanced at least. People now and days have a better understanding for people who are mental and their justice is better than back in the day.

During the 1990's 'til today we have nurses who stay and take care or watch over people who are challenged, if they don't have a family. If Leannie was around during this time period. I believe his life would have been a little better. In my opinion the time period Leannie is living in probably would put him in jail, or in an asylum. Since we have more sympathy for people like that, we wouldn't be so hard on him. We now have nurses who try and help them. George would be happy because he wouldn't have to worry about Leannie ruining thing's for him.

Medicine is such an big evolution during out time period. When most people are sick, many believe that drugs is the way to go. Sometimes but not in all situations. If Leannie were to take drugs, he would probably control not doing everything that pop's up in his head and actually think before he act. Yet another way life could be easier for George and for Leannie. George would be able to hold a job with Leannie by his side and both could be successful. But in different way's.

Last but not least  people's sympathy are bigger than people back then If it was on the news that a big man touching on a girls dress you'll think "creepy". But when they announce that he is challenged. People  would be like "okay he can't help it". But he still needs help. Unlike during their time they would have thought of him as a threat. Because he's big and can not control himself.  So he wouldn't have no say so and throw him in jail or an insane asylum. During the year 2009 I believe he has more justice.

To sum it all up. If Leannie was in our time I think life would be a little easier for Leannie and George. Today we have Nurses who take care of them when you can't at the time. Or more people have more of an understanding. That they wouldn't think that he is the way he is on purpose. Last which should be the last thing people should have to come to is to give him or her medicine. It would help them but it would also become a habit for them.  So don't make that a choice, unless you really have to. After reading this do you to think that Leannie would had survive in this time period than in his own?

Leannie thought that he lost his working papers but george had it.

4 between the line questions=40 points

1. Does George really care about Leannie or is he just using him.

I really do belive that george cares about leannie because if he didn't he wouldn't ahve kept
Leannie around all this time. If george didn't care all the times that Leannie messed up he
wouldn't have helped him. Groge just could have let him get caught and be hunged, put into jailed, or even worse. In my opinion Ireally do belive that george cares. Another way you can telll is because he is never afraid to be around him or claim him as afriend or as his brother. So yes Gorge does care for Leannie.

2. Why is it that Leannie is so interested for animals?

In my opinion I think Leannie has it real bad for animals because he can relate to them. How? Simply because animals are underestimated. When people think of animals they think below the food chain. What do I mean? People see animals as small creatures that nobaody care as much for because they're not as important as humans are. Leannie can relate to that.
Most people dont care about others who are slower than the rest.
All they know is that he is stupid and he wouldn't matter if he was dead because
he's not important as the rest of "humans who are not dumb." That in my opinion
is why I believe that Leannie has such an interest in animals.

3. Do Curley really love his wife or is he just married to her because she's a trophy?

Curley only has her around because he use her as an trophy. Because Curley is small he feels as though that he needs to prove a point. So he trains in boxing to make him feel as though that he is a man. When really he just as small now then when he started out.  So now that "feels" like a man he wants her to complete his image. To me Curley is a punk and he doesn't give a damn about his wife. When Leannie accidently killed his wife he didn't even say i'll stay here with her while the rest of you go get her. He was happy to get Leannie now because he killed his "wife". And now not only because he's bigger than him.

4. Why did George kill Leannie himself and didn't let somebody else do it?

George killed Leannie because he felt as though that nobody should kill his friend. They didn't know him and george didn't want anybody doing what he should do. It is actually the same wit candy. He told george that he shouldn't let no stranger kill his dog he should had. That stuck wit him. He felt the same. That nobody should kill his friend. If there is no other way for Leannie to get away. then George should have the honor to let his friend be free.

SHOWING (STANDING) RESPECT FOR THE FLAG.

“Its not like I’m burning the flag. Its just that I don’t want to stand.”
Constitution high. A new school that is all about the government. A school about the LAW. When you think LAW you think liberty, and justice, “equality”. Is this sounding a little familiar to you? Sounds like quotes from the flag salute. I interviewed 10 students to see if they say the words and stand. You wouldn’t believe the results I got from a school that is all about “law“ and government.”

We are united and proud of our country! Are we really? When morning announcements come on, conversations are still being carried between students, teachers checking over students work from yesterday, possibly last week. Students eating breakfast. I never see students stand. Maybe in the beginning of the school year. When the teacher actually made the students stand up. And say, “even if you don’t ant to say the words you still have to stand to show respect.” Now and days I don’t even hear that no more. When I asked 10 students do they stand when its time to pledge 8 said no because their too tired, lazy, its to early to stand, “I just don’t do it because I don’t think we need to stand to show that we respect the flag.” “No sometimes I can’t even hear the morning announcements because the class room be too loud and noisy.” This is a classic because I heard it so many times during interviews.“ No because class is too loud, and the teacher's don’t even stand and the Principal says it too slow." "It’s already to early in the morning to stand and he says it too slow.” One person said yes he do stand and say the Words. “Its only 30 seconds long.” Another person surprised me when he said he as Muslim and doesn’t stand. All though thats not what surprised me. What surprised me was when, I asked him if he wasn't Muslim would he stand? He said "Yes". He’ll stand and say the words. He also said stated that “teachers have the flag tied up like a bandana…” and we don’t even have flagpole!"

As you read this article do this compare to you? Not just to students but teachers and parents when they was in high school? Or maybe when ever you do hear the flag salute do you stand? Do you relate to their comments? That When you don’t stand its because your tired, or feel as though you shouldn’t have to stand to show respect? That you have your on Ways of showing? The flag salute does say… one nation under god, individual for liberty and justice for all. Does it not ? Individual meaning that we are entitled to show respect for the flag in our own way. Thats what these people are doing. Do you think its okay or not?

The trantition from spring to summer.

2/24/09 RODSHEEA DOMINIQUE THOMAS

Lizabeth and I are nothing alike. Liz tried to fight the unfightable. On the other hand myself just let it go with the flow. For one Lizabeth and are different in the way she fought and got mad because she was indeed becoming an adult. For me it happened at a younger age but I accepted it. Although we are not the same I do agree with her when she mentions when your innocence is taken it doesn’t mean that your virginity was taken away. Last there is one more thing that we share in common is that neither of us wants to grow up, and at one point are eyes were wide open.

Liazabeth was in the spring of her life trying to fight it off. Trying so hard to avoid transition into becoming an adult; but that’s the difference between me and Lizabeth I didn’t fight not turning into to an adult, making the transition, or had been forced it just happened. In the story it said that my innocence was taken away and it doesn’t mean that your virginity had to be taken. Agree. It is so true I myself never had sex but at sometimes maturity of adult hood is what ho I feel.

At age 8 my child as coming to a halt. All of a sudden hen ice cream truck comes by I wasnt as excited. Money comes my ay it just wasn’t enough for me any more. I didn’t care for going outside as much all I would say is that “I’ll call you, or see ya at school.” At the age of adult ad lances I would tease teenagers saying why all they do is talk on the phone, they don’t ant to go play outside? how come all they do is is just sleep and don't watch cartoons anymore. Telling myself that, that would never happen to me. Little did I know it as and it did. Have that ever happen to you as a child? Saying, “that will never happen to me I wont allow it!” Exactly hat happened to me things like that just can’t be controlled. But Lizabeth thought that she can’t stop the transitions but she can hold it off a little longer. Not true. The is going to happen whether e can control it or not.

Eyes wide open is hat took part in Liazbeth and Rodsheéa. At certain point it came to our attention that change is coming and you are just going to have to go with the flow. When 9/11 hit. That day is so clear in my mind. My dad came to the school and I was in 3rd grade. He didn’t even check me out. He didn’t stop at the office, nothing. When we got home he turned on the TV and told me look at the news. There were airplane, jets, war trucks, and every other thing that is related in was as a weapon. “Dad I don’t want to see this anymore.” Walk away is what I did just like what Lizabeth did when she just couldn’t stand that her innocence was fading. My brother and I were just playing and even though my mind was off of it. That war just hit me and proved to me even more that life isn’t fun. So why should I have it? From that moment knowing that my days as innocent not knowing or understanding what was happening in this crazy world was coming to an end. No I did not fight it because I was still in my spring time transitioning into my summer. Lizabeths time for her eyes being open to the world was when she saw the beautiful Marigolds in such an ugly environment. When she tore up the flowers not only did she realize that it hurt Ms. Lottie but it was more than looks. It was just apart of a person that didn’t have anything to do with Ms. Lottie trying to look better than everybody else. Just the fact that it was important to her I her life of winter.

So even though Lizabeth and me took our growing up differently. It’s the fact that we got there and adjusted to it or is still trying. We got there and that doesn’t mean that we don’t can’t never go and visit our spring years. It is just the fact that cannot stay there. Were just like the sun it comes and goes but even when its there some times we don’t shine, or show but were there and different.

p.s i have to go with summer 'cause your treate asa adltbut dont neccairly haveto pay bills and all that. And plus summer is time ismy birth season. 7/8/93

Harlem/Soweto
Essay

“…You sweat coal we burn steel, you’re locked on lands we’re locked indoors.” In my opinion that is the strongest sentence. That one short sentence right there is perfect! Descriptions’ of all three of my topics. Which are text to world, text to self, and deep (description of struggle.)

Harlem/Soweto by Sayfia Henderson. Great poem! Love it because it relates to the real world. Similes that’s used are good…” we are woven in separable as sky with one sun…” It gets straight to the point that draws the reader into the poem. Language stated in the poem is real …”you say Bantustans we say Harlem, you say Soweto we say Watts.” Quote from Harlem/Soweto, that quote right there is so powerful alone. Just to tell us that we are different by saying a different name. Even though we’re the same because Africans, and African Americans call for a different name but we call for the same reason. Henderson’s poem is poetic, description of Africans, and African Americans and nature are shown clearly through words. Given many details. Harlem/Soweto gives the reader a sense of what Henderson knows in her perspective, which makes it powerful.

A good poem is a better poem. Why? Simply because in most cases it relates to yourself. You! Some of the saying’s in Harlem/Soweto said,”your locked on land and were locked indoors…” powerful and true. Personally I can relate to that saying. People believe that since we have our freedom, they think we’re free. Necessarily we’re not completely free. I too am locked indoors, but I have the freedom to leave without permission. But then again I still need it. Right now all people struggle everyday, every minute, every second. “ finger knotted around one stick I am an African American whose fingers are knotted around a stick. Yours a stick to do labor. Mine stick to write my life away.

At last real life situations, Africans, African Americans struggle, talk about the man. Are all descriptions of struggle …"You sweat coal we burn steel. You’re locked on lands we’re locked indoors.” Quote from Harlem/Soweto my favorite. That quote is so strong and right to the point. Cant you just feel how serious that is. Fact: that we some what over came trouble makes it even better, even though we still have problems. We are still connected.” We are woven inseparable as one sky with one sun one moon one tongue rolled to spit in one eye…” Another quote from Harlem/Soweto. Still trying to fight off the “man”. Even though some think we are free. “You say Bantustans we say Harlem, you say Soweto, we say Watts.”

“…You sweat coal, we burn steel, you’re locked on lands, we’re locked indoors” Start with the greatness must end in greatness. Harlem/Soweto is a great, strong, and powerful. How I can relate to it and it relates to the world, and how descriptive it is. If you don’t like it oh well but keep in mind that they are our ancestors and sacrificed their everything for us.Including their lives.

N.H.D for me was short. My partner and I got things done faster than what my partner from last year did. Probably because we started so late and us rushing cause us to panic because and think that we didn't have enough time which is true.

Silmarie and I got a lot of annotations and we had a lot of pictures and cations to go and bring sense to it.We got a lot of things done in a short period of time. For one when we were suppose to have like 15 Annotations we had like twice the amount that was suppose to be done. Which gave us a good amount of time to not try and rush things. Although we overlooked that the L and I was in Amelia Earhart was in the wrong spot but other than that we got a lot things done before the due date. What I learned from this year isn't different from what I learned last year.

The day of our presentation was a so long. It 1 hour for three judges to look at one board which i don't understand because they all could had split up but they didn't. And we and all the other peolpe who too was waiting was looking unprofessional because we were falling asleep and that made us look bad. Compared to last year I think it went better than this year because unlike this year it was boring. Not our topic but the work shops were fun last year. Now that things were so organized it just made school even more boring.
